2012 Best Of

2012 Best Of

January is the month I like to share all of my previous year's favorite photos.  I have categories like Rings, Shoes, Flowers, Dress, Bride, Wedding Party etc.  With over 60 weddings it is sometimes hard to narrow it down.  We try to choose photos that are somewhat unique but also crisp, vibrant and tell a story.  Not every wedding makes it into every gallery.  That doesn't mean I playing favorites or think the photos were not good from a particular wedding.  In fact, I may have overlooked an obvious entry.  If you feel I am missing a best of photo from a wedding please let me know.  Here is the gallery I keep all my 2012 best of photos.  More will be added in the next couple of weeks.  Below find the photos representing my Best of Father Daughter photos.

Forehead affection, more than just a pose

Forehead affection, more than just a pose

Recently I have become enamored with how romantic and amazing the forehead to forehead moment is.  I decided to go through the archives and find some of my favorite forehead wedding day photos.  I wanted to make a point that it is worth "practicing" this kind of affection before your wedding day.  If you don't already do the forehead thing with your fiance I highly recommend it.  As you view these photos I think you will agree that it is fun, romantic and intimate to express your love for each other with your foreheads.   See for yourself...

Daddy's little girl

Daddy's little girl

Kate and Erik are special people.  When you see the way Erik looks at Kate and the ease with which they laugh together its just inspiring.  It was such a pleasure and honor to serve as the wedding photographer for their big day.  But the moment that stands out most to me was during the father/daughter dance.

Mr. Burditt steps proudly out onto the dance floor to have this special dance with his little girl.  The song was Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman.  You can tell this isn't the first time he heard this song.  He sang, no he serenaded Kate with nearly every word of that wonderful song while they danced.  I was choked up and it struck me anew just how important it was that I capture this moment appropriately for Kate to always remember just how much her dad loves and admires his precious girl.

Below are my favorite photos and a short video from that heart warming first dance.

Kimberly Minardi & Craig Sloan

Kimberly Minardi & Craig Sloan

Max Biedermann and I teamed up to shoot a very unique engagement session.  Kimberly is a pilot at United and when we were talking about where to shoot the photos I asked if there was any chance we could shoot with a 747 jet.   Sure enough Kimberly pulled some strings and walah!  I had never even set foot in a 747 before so it was also very interesting to get a private tour of the airplane.  Most of these photos are Max's shots as he has the honor of being lead photographer at Kimberly and Craig's wedding but it was so much fun.

Hiram Butrick Sawmill Wedding Gallery

Hiram Butrick Sawmill Wedding Gallery

Kendra Adams & Eric Ring were married at Chain of Lakes Bible Church in Antioch, IL.  We started by taking photos at Kendra's parent's house and then had the first look at the church.  We went to Hiram Butrick Sawmill in Antioch, IL to shoot wedding party photos and some romantic photos of the happy couple.  After the ceremony the reception was held at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer, IL.

Kendra posed with her dad and his refurbished hotrod.  That was lots of fun.  The sawmill is a beautiful place to shoot with a wedding party.  Chain of Lakes Bible Church has amazing natural light.  Concorde Banquets' facility has a wonderful property to shoot wedding photos complete with a large pond, gazebo and blooming trees and lush grass.  The food was excellent.  Memory Makers DJ Service was a pleasure to work with.  Kendra's Satin A-Line Gown was purchased at  David’s Bridal, her shoes were also from David’s Bridal called Dyeable Peep Toe Heel.  See photos from Kendra and Eric's wedding below.

Baker House Wedding, Lake Geneva, WI

Baker House Wedding, Lake Geneva, WI

Denene & Roy were married on March 31, 2012 at The Baker House in Lake Geneva, WI.  The ceremony was held on location with the reception following immediately afterward.   The Baker House is an overwhelmingly beautiful venue with so much to take in as a guest and as a photographer.  Each room is exquisitely decorated and unique.  The customer service Denene and Roy received fromt the staff at The Baker House was over-the-top.  To view Denene & Roy's entire wedding gallery follow this link: Baker House Wedding Photography.

They had a first look around noon and we jumped right into the photography to get the meat and potatoes photography captured before the ceremony.  We started by getting getting photos of the dress and shoes and rings set up around the Baker House.  The bridal suite we used to shoot the dress in was stunning.  After Denene finished putting on her beautiful dress we went across the street to shoot on the piers and around The Riviera.  The ceremony was very fast and we completed the family photos and a few more romantic session photos before arriving at the reception.  Below are some of the photos from their big day.

Family Photo Checklist

Family Photo Checklist

This is really important to help the process move quickly and efficiently. We suggest starting with the largest family first and perhaps any difficult situations first. For example, if you have grand parents who are disabled or young children who need a nap let get them done first. Then work from LARGEST groups to SMALLER groups. Please assign a family member or two to help us run the checklist. Here is a sample checklist:

Smith Side:

  1. Bride, Groom, Mom, Dad, Paul, Mark, Will, Susan, Mary, John, Grandma, Grandpa

  2. Bride, Groom, Grandma, Grandpa

  3. Bride, Grandma

  4. Bride, Grandpa

  5. Bride, Groom, Mom, Dad, Paul, Susan

  6. Bride, Groom, Mom, Dad

  7. Bride, Mom, Dad

  8. Bride, Mom

  9. Bride, Dad

Johnson Side:

  1. Groom, Bride, Mom, Dad, Bill, Jake, Sarah, Paul, Grandma, Grandpa

  2. Groom, Bride, Grandma, Grandpa

  3. Groom, Grandma

  4. Groom, Grandpa

  5. Groom, Bride, Mom, Dad, Bill,

  6. Groom, Bride, Mom, Dad

  7. Groom, Mom, Dad

  8. Groom, Mom

  9. Groom, Dad

  10. etc.

As far as formatting please keep it as simple as possible.  Sending as a plain email with bullet points is perfect.  Please do not use an excel document.

*IMPORTANT: Please note that we follow this checklist carefully. Every grouping that you want included should be noted. This includes things such as Bride, Mom or Groom with brother, etc.  The reason this is important and cannot be assumed. We don’t always know about the strains of some relationships or what is truly a photo you want taken.  We recommend keeping the total number of groupings between 15 and 25.  An average timeframe per grouping is 1.5 to 2 minutes sometimes more for larger groups.

*ALSO IMPORTANT: Please do not provide an all day checklist of possible combinations of every photo you might possibly want. We cover your day very nicely and get almost every possible combination of your wedding party and all the key moments of your day. Providing an extensive checklist can drain the creativity out of your photographer. That said, if you have a very important photo you or even a handful I suggest making it part of your family photo checklist and ask these people to hangout during the family photos so we are sure to capture it for you.
